pole star

Write away

We all know santa lives in the North Pole. But have you tried finding out what his home looks like in Christmas? Apparently, all the light poles are curved and striped like candy canes and the streets have names like Santa Claus Lane and Kris Kringle Drive. As for the letters to Santa, they start pouring in right from Thanksgiving Day, by the thousands. Even stampless letters get through, which is a rare exception for the United States postal service. Children who send letters with return addresses usually receive letters signed by Santa’s elves and helpers. These replies get a North Pole postal cancellation mark, complete with a half moon drawing of Santa’s face. Even late letters get a reply. They say something like “Thanks for writing. Santa’s been real busy”.

Heal the world

Craig kielberg’s been nominated for the Nobel Peace prize three times. He founded Free the Children, the world’s largest network of children helping children through education when he was only 12 years old. Shocked after hearing the plight of a Pakistani child labourer Craig got together his classmates in Thornhill, Ontario, and set up the organisation which has changed the lives of more than one million youngsters around the world. Way to go, Craig.
