Newborn rescued
A newborn was found on a pavement of Raja Subodh Mullick Square on Friday morning. Police took the baby to NRS Medical College and Hospital, from where it was shifted to Lady Dufferin Hospital.
Train diverted
On the occasion of Ardh Kumbh Mela from January 3 to February 16, the Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express will be diverted via Mughalsarai-Mirzapur-Allahabad-Kanpur on January 17, 18 and 21. The Down train will be diverted via Kanpur-Allahabad-Mirzapur-Mughalsarai on January 16, 19 and 21.
Bail rejected
Calcutta High Court on Friday rejected the bail petition of Anand Mallu, an accused in the blood test kit scam. He was arrested on the charge of assaulting Abhijit Sarkar, an employee of key accused Govind Sarda’s Monozyme India Limited, for refusing to sign some “fictitious documents”.
Inspection
Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya — along with municipal commissioner Alapan Bandyopadhyay and MLAs Dinesh Bajaj and Md Sohrab — inspected the shops set up at Marcus Square to relocate traders of College Street market, which will soon be renovated. The keys to the shops will be handed over to the College Street Byabosayee Samity on January 1.
