Ranchi, Dec. 10: Governor Syed Sibtey Razi today made it clear that he was going to play a proactive role to make the state government responsive to public issues.
“The role of the Governor has undergone a drastic change. Now, we have to own up to our responsibilities to the public. We cannot remain mute spectators like our counterparts in the British days,” he said.
Inaugurating the Raj Bhavan website, Razi said he was duty bound to request the chief minister to tone up the law and order situation and also speed up development schemes.
“And the state government cannot ignore the governor’s public-spirited queries,” Razi maintained.
Releasing a report card of the Raj Bhavan, Razi said the role of the governor has become all the more important and sensitive under the coalition government.
He pointed out that he had tried his best to convert the Raj Bhavan into a “janata ka bhavan (public house)” and make his role meaningful.
In the last 365 days, he said, he had participated in as many as 180 programmes, 34 out of which, were held in the Raj Bhavan, while the rest were organised in various districts.
He met 83 delegations and met at least 253 persons by appointment. He also honoured 10 local artistes at a cultural function in the evening.
The Raj Bhavan’s website has the profile of the Governor, his wife Chand Farhana and contact numbers of the Raj Bhavan officials.
Besides, it also displays the constitutional role of the Governor, his role as the chancellor and the initiatives taken by Razi. It also displays his speeches.
