Poverty kills 5
Malda, Nov. 25: Driven by poverty, a 35-year-old mother poisoned her four daughters to death before committing suicide in a Malda village this morning.
Neighbours at Nauda Chainpara village said arguments between Hakim Mandal, 45, and his wife Sova, 35, were common. Hakim earned Rs 40 a day as a rickshaw van-puller in the border village, about 350 km from Calcutta.
Calcutta: Burrabazar police have arrested Sandip Majumder for stealing Rs 8 lakh. A Burdwan rice traderís employee, Sandip, 30, had claimed that he was drugged on a train and robbed on his way to Howrah. The money, however, was found in his house.
