Rocking Nite
Party zone: Students have fun at the DJ nite

The students of Bhowanipore College let their hair down for the DJ night held at Venom, Fort Knox on November 12. All credit goes to the organisers, Kirti, Tariq and Gautam for livening up the Sunday evening. Excitement was in the air as the DJ belted out popular numbers from recent movies like Omkara and Woh Lamhe. The DJ nite was followed by a jazzy ramp show done by the city’s models and ex-students like Shreya Pande and Priyanka. The glamour, glitz and the fun quotient of the event left the crowd asking for more.

PUNE
Talking media

On November 7, Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communication organised the Calcutta chapter of “Footprints 06”, a part of a nationwide media seminar being held in eight cities across the country. The theme was “Mass and Media: Who leads whom?” which dealt with the role played by media in the society. Prof. Debesh Das, minister of information technology, West Bengal, inaugurated the seminar at Kalakunj.

The day’s schedule was divided into three sections — news, cinema and marketing communication and each of the sections had lectures and panel discussions by eminent speakers.

The star-studded speaker list included Monideepa Banerjee, resident editor, NDTV 24X7, Eastern India, Sumit Dasgupta, editor Metro, city supplement of The Telegraph, Pradip Gooptu, resident editor, Business Standard and member of Bengal Think Tank, Anindita Sarbhadicari, eminent film maker, Sidharth Roy, president Ad Club of Calcutta, etc. But the person who had the crowd’s undivided attention was Shubir Bhowmik, BBC correspondent, Eastern India. He enthralled the audience with anecdotes of his days in Assam, Tripura and Bangladesh. The audience enjoyed the sessions tremendously. The seminar was followed by an alumni dinner.

Nature’s beauty

On November 10, Hariyana Vidya Mandir School, organised a trip for the students of Class XII to the bird sanctuary at Narendrapur. The students were escorted by six teachers who provided us with interesting details of the different birds. It was a pretty place with butterflies and birds hovering all around. After a bit of sightseeing, we had a delicious lunch and came back to school refreshed and rejuvenated.
