Calcutta, Nov. 12: Information and broadcasting minister Priya Ranjan Das Munshi today called on foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee at his south Calcutta home to discuss affairs of the Congress’s Bengal unit.

Sources said the appointment of a state party president and the Congress’s support to Mamata Banerjee’s candidate for the Islampur Assembly bypoll figured in the talks.

Mukherjee had resigned from the state Congress chief’s post, accepting responsibility for the drubbing in the May Assembly elections.

The sources said a Delhi visit by 32 Congress functionaries to lobby the AICC to appoint Somen Mitra the state president prompted Das Munshi to meet Mukherjee.
