Power shortfall
There were several rounds of power cuts in the city and its suburbs on Tuesday evening as the shortfall in the CESC-served areas increased to 220 MW. A snag at Southern Generating Station caused the shortfall.
JU agitation
Jadavpur University students on Monday night gheraoed the universitys arts faculty members demanding deferment of the MA examinations. According to the students, the dates of the examinations, starting on December 4, clash with those of the state school service commission and the national eligibility test. The gherao continued till 4 am on Tuesday.
HC on hotel
The high court on Tuesday directed police to hand over 22 cottahs at Nonadanga to Artistry Properties Limited, a sister concern of Apeejay group, and assist it to construct a hotel. The court dismissed a petition by local residents claiming they owned the plot.
Youths in net
Three youths were arrested at National Medical College and Hospital on Monday night while they were protesting the alleged negligence by doctors in treating 24-year-old Farat Begum. The youths damaged windows, broke chairs and manhandled hospital staff and policemen who tried to stop them.
