‘Thief’ has no place in bank

New Delhi (PTI): Delhi High Court has upheld a public sector bank’s decision to fire an employee guilty of theft, saying banks which constantly deal with cash cannot keep a “thief” on their payrolls.

The counsel for Delhi’s Vijaya Bank, where Mohinder Pal Grover used to work as a peon, said he was dismissed after being found guilty of committing theft twice while on duty.

Gang blow

Mumbai (PTI): Eleven members of the Santosh Shetty gang were arrested in shootout and extortion cases in Mumbai and Thane district. Seven gangsters were held from various parts of Thane district on Saturday, while four hired from Uttar Pradesh were held on Sunday at Mumbai Central on their way back home.

Gas death

Jaipur (PTI): A man died and 70 people took ill after chlorine gas leaked from a factory in Kota, police said. Gopal Mehra, who inhaled the gas when he was passing by the factory that cleaned and repaired tankers, died of suffocation.

Pandit plea

Jammu (PTI): The All-Party Migrant Coordination Committee has demanded an autonomous development council for the 3.5 lakh displaced Kashmiri pandits.

Tagore plays

Mumbai (PTI): Four of Rabindranath Tagore’s plays will be staged in as many languages during the Prithvi Theatre Festival to reintroduce them to the new generation. The festival starts on November 3.
