Wonder story
The cover story This wonder chip detects heart attacks (October 16) was useful and informative. With such technological advancements in the world of medicine, diagnosis and treatment have become simpler. Thanks to the wonder chip, many patients will be spared the surgeons scalpel because of early detection. However, it is also important that the discovery be internationally recognised and marketed before being implemented on a large scale in the country. Our scientists need to be commended on such valuable work.

Sea of information
KnowHow provides very useful reading material for laypersons. Here is a suggestion: the supplement should be published more often. After all, there is no dearth of relevant information. We are living in an era of technological advancement; there is something to report every second. Perhaps KnowHow could feature a special column on this topic, informing readers about the latest gadgets and applications. Also, space should be provided for news from the world of biomedical engineering, a fast emerging field. Lastly, Why Corner (page 8) should feature more questions.

Odour wise
The smell recorder (A machine to record fragrance, October 2) is a very interesting invention. So, we can all record our favourite smells now. Kudos to the Japanese. I personally love the smell of luchi and alur dum as also some very expensive perfumes, which I cant afford. I know of people who love the smell of petrol, spirits and lacquer. Hope the smell recorder is marketed in India soon. Also, I wish its not too costly, so that all of us can buy one!
