No sting in this tale

Utthaan

Director: Ujjwal Chatterjee
Cast: Priyanshu Chatterjee, Neha Dhupia, Avtar Gill
3/10

Ujjwal Chatterjee’s point seems to be that those carrying out stings on others could well do with some stings on their own lives, too. All those skeletons stacked in their own cupboards could make interesting headlines and stories as well. That Utthaan, based on this idea, doesn’t make it anyway is another matter.

Priyanshu falls a little flat, not quite there as the dubious character he is supposed to be. And if it was not for Neha, most of the scenes would not even be able to stand the test of being passable.

Saddled with a script that doesn’t want to develop, there’s little anyone could have done. The style and story could have got the nod a decade or two ago, but today it’s a yawn-through. And considering it is Kumar Sanu’s first Hindi production (and music), there’s nothing going for it there, either.
