Majestic Masterpiece: The Konarak Temple in Orissa

This September the BBA second year and MBA students of the Institute of Engineering and Management (IEM), Calcutta, went on a trip to Bhubaneswar for their industrial tour, accompanied by three faculty members.

On September 22, the day of our arrival, the MBA (second year) student committee members had organised an orientation programme at the hotel conference hall. Based on a question-answer session, prizes were given away to Mr and Ms BBA and MBA.

The next day, we visited the National Aluminium Company Ltd. Its executive head gave a presentation on the company’s turnover, achievements and aluminium ore processing plants.

September 24 was reserved for sightseeing (Udaygiri, Lingaraj Temple, etc) in the morning and cultural programmes in the evening. The BBA (second year) students performed a group fusion dance, a solo dance and Western music. A student of MBA (first year) brilliantly performed a classical dance item. This was coupled with Tagore songs and tunes played on the mouth organ. The winners of the cultural programme were presented with awards.

The next day we headed for a one-night stay in Puri via Konarak and Dhabalgiri. The beach party was an unforgettable event of the tour.

On September 26, the last day of our trip, we visited the Jagannath Temple in Puri.

Sports time

Recently the football semi-finals of our school were held. The first match was between Taxila (Yellow) and Vikramshila (Blue) houses. After a rigorous fight, and a few penalties, Taxila emerged victorious with five goals against four from the opponent. The second match was between Ujjaini and Nalanda. Nalanda was unable to score a single goal and Ujjaini won the match with two goals. Now we are waiting eagerly for the final showdown.

Also, recently, an inter-school basketball match was held in our school. Various schools like Apeejay, Grace Ling Liang, St Thomas, etc, participated in it. After a tough competition, the winner was St Thomas Boys, M.P. Birla being the first runner-up. In the girls’ match, M.P. Birla came first. In the tug-of-war too we emerged victorious.
