I AM a student of Class XI. I want to do my graduation and postgraduation in drama. What are the top 10 drama and film schools of the world and what are the procedures of admission to them? I would also like to know the future prospects of this course since I am interested in acting.

Sharmistha Choudhury

Start taking part in your school plays. If you still think that you are keen to take up acting as a profession and have a flair for it, you can go through the websites of the following universities or colleges: University of New Orleans (degree programme in drama and communications), Contra Costa College (fine arts), University of Hartford (music, theatre and dance), Citrus College (drama), Columbia College, Chicago (drama), Warwick Institute of Education (MA in drama and theatre education). In India, you can consider the National School of Drama, the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, and the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) in Calcutta. I would also suggest that you buy a book called Film School Confidential that evaluates the best institutes in the USA and provides all the details.

I passed my Higher Secondary Examination last year with 80 per cent marks in physics, chemistry and biology. I want to know about Chinese universities where I could apply for my MBBS.

Aditya

You can apply to the following universities or colleges: China Medical University (CMU) which is one of the top 10 medical universities in China and is situated near Beijing; Zhejiang Medical University in Hangzhou; Hubei University of TCM, Wuhan, which has a ‘key university’ status; Three Gorges University; Shenyang Medical University. The marks you have scored in your Higher Secondary Examination will qualify you for most universities in China which allow Indian students to study MBBS.

The MBBS courses offered for international students are good but some Indian students have complained about the professors’ inability to teach in English and a lack of proper infrastructure. People from around the world are flocking to Chinese universities for medical degrees because it is extremely cheap.

Once you are back with a degree from China, you will need to clear the screening test organised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) before you can start a practice in the country.
