Our poet

The first children’s poet laureate is here. The Poetry Foundation, US, has named Jack Prelutsky as the first ever children’s poet laureate. If you’ve always thought poetry was boring, you should check out the titles, The dragons are singing tonight, A pizza the size of the sun, Something big has been here. Poetry Foundation is one of the largest literary foundations in the world. In fact, the Poetry Magazine published by the Foundation is the oldest monthly dedicated to the English verse. In Never poke your uncle with a fork, Prelutsky writes about a nephew who does just that. In My first best friend, he writes about a child’s seven best friends, all of whom are mean to him, a common childhood complaint. He closes the poem saying, “My seventh best is Monster Moe/ he often plays too rough. That’s all the friends I’ve got right now/I think I’ve got enough.”

A happy pet in after life. We’ve all heard of the mummies of the Egyptian pharaohs, but have you heard of mummified dogs? Apparently, the ancient Peruvians held their pet dogs in such high esteem, that their dogs had burial plots near that of the humans and their graves also contained items such as food and blankets for afterlife. Now that must have meant a comfy life for the pets in the happy hunting grounds.
