Calcutta, Oct. 11: Singurs plots in its pocket — at least on paper — Buddhadeb Bhattacharjees government today started a 6,000-acre land acquisition programme for the proposed Dankuni township.
Urban development minister Asok Bhattacharya chaired a meeting with Hooghly district magistrate Vinod Kumar and land reforms commissioner Sukumar Das to chalk out a road map.
We intend to finish the acquisition by the middle of next year. The land reforms department will hand over the land to the Calcutta Metropolitan Development Authority by August. Weve recruited consultants to oversee the process, Bhattacharya said.
The CMDA will then enter into an agreement with DLF for building Indias largest private township.
