Awetland is the link between land and water. The soil in the wetlands is usually soaked with water. Wetland plants, called hydrophytes, are well adapted to these conditions. In fact, hydrophytes are suited to the low level of oxygen in the soil. Wetlands are found all over the world except Antarctica and they support a great variety of life. Mammals found in wetlands include fish-eaters like otters and minks, and those that feed on plants like beavers and water-voles. In freshwater wetlands you will find ducks and geese, sandpipers, gulls, terns, herons, eagles, kingfishers, finches and so on. While migrating, many birds take shelter in the wetlands. In fact they often breed and raise their young ones here. Besides, wetlands play host to different reptiles and amphibians including snakes, monitor lizards, frogs and others.
