Citu ‘attack’

Durgapur, Oct. 10: A group of workers allegedly belonging to Citu beat up the security manager and another officer of Graphite India Ltd in Durgapur last night.

The management lodged an FIR today against Kalidas Chakraborty and Partha Basu, who allegedly led the attackers. They are absconding, said Saikat Roy, the officer-in-charge of Coke Oven police station.

The plant’s Citu secretary, Nityahari Dutta, denied the charges, saying the Citu members rescued the officials from workers protest- ing against the security manager’s corruption.

Fishery aid

Calcutta: Bengal has sought a central assistance of Rs 100 crore for eight fishery projects, including four fishing harbours. The others include an ornamental fish farming project for self-help groups.
