My Fundays

I went to a boarding school in Deolali because my brother was also there and the thought of a boarding school excited me. I was very naughty but was a very good sportsman. I was a member of the hockey team and we used to wake up early in the morning to practice.

One day, the practice session got over before dawn and it was still dark. A window of the hostel storeroom was broken. So we shoved our hockey sticks through it and pulled out lots of bananas.

We were all very hungry. We sat down and ate all the bananas and threw the peels around without realising what we were doing. When we came to school in the morning, the whole place was infested with crows, who were merrily eating the peels and going ‘caw-caw’. Nobody could shoo them away.

The principal called us into his office and gave us a firing. But no one squealed and blamed us for the mischief. So we all got detention and were made to run around the school for quite a long time. It was really funny.

We used to do cross-country running and really enjoyed it. In Deolali, there are grape farms. Grapes hang from trees in big bunches. We loved eating the fruit but we got the chance to hand pick them only when we went cross-country running.

Though I was not bad in studies, I was more into sports. I was very naughty but used to be quite shy as well.

While in school, I was a good dancer. I didn’t go to college. Instead I started doing choreography soon after I gave my school final examination.
