Marked by chanting mantras and singing devotional songs, Mahalaya heralds the advent of the Mother Goddess and is a day of solemn invocation.
Hutch Agomoni, a programme of music to celebrate Mahalaya, commences this evening with a traditional
dhak performance, followed by felicitation to Dwijen Mukhopadhyay and Dr M Balamuralikrishna by Sridhar Rao and Soumitra Chatterjee. The night-long live concert features songs by well-known artistes including Arati Mukherjee, Indranil Sen, Haimanti Shukla, Swagatalakshmi Dasgupta, Indrani Sen, Shivaji Chattopadhyay and Dr M Balamuralikrishna. Also, a dance drama by Mamata Shankar and her ballet troupe, along with special performances put together by tabla exponents Bikram Ghosh and Tanmoy Bose. Another attraction of the musical soiree is a
baul performance by Sahaj Ma. The event concludes with
