Study on job mart

Calcutta, Sept. 13: The government is mulling a study to assess industry’s skill requirements to increase employability of those graduating from professional institutes in the state.

“The survey will help the institutes draw up and revise curriculum,” higher education minister Sudarshan Roychowdhury said at a technical education meet organised by CII and the All India Council for Technical Education.

Tourist ‘slap’

Calcutta: The governor has sought a report from the BSF about the “assault” on a German tourist by a jawan at Se-aldah on Tuesday. Caren, 23, was waiting for Darjeeling Mail when two jawans, who wanted to see her passport, slapped and abused her after she said it was with a friend who was on the way.

Syrup mix-up

Santiniketan: A Visva-Bharati student fell ill on Wednesday after drinking phenol, which a pharmacy on campus allegedly gave him by mistake instead of a cough syrup. Barun Mondal, a post-graduate student of ancient history, has been hospitalised.
