Rhino attack

Jalpaiguri, Sept. 4: Huku Oraon, a 47-year-old forest worker posted at the Garati protection camp in the Gorumara sanctuary, was severely injured when a rhino attacked him around 8.30 pm on Sunday.

He has been taken to the Jalpaiguri sadar hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.

Siliguri: The 30th inter-frontier BSF Hockey and Football Tournament was flagged off at the subsidiary training centre of the BSF at Salugara on Monday. Damodar Sarangi, the ADG (East) of the BSF, inaugurated the event.

Run over

Darjeeling: An unidentified woman was run over by an army vehicle on D.B. Giri Road here at 7.30 pm on Monday.

Protest

Islampur: The Ganatantrik Mahila Samiti, the CPM’s women’s wing, staged a protest at the Panjipara police outpost on Monday. The members said Shipra Mirdha, the sister-in-law of local Congress pradhan Santi Ranjan Mirdha, had filed a complaint against him, alleging assault and ransacking of her house. But police were yet to arrest him.
