Woman run over

Calcutta, Aug. 19: A woman was run over by a vehicle near JK Island on Kidderpore Road this evening.

Police said the vehicle sped off after knocking down the woman, who was around 40.

Phone tower

Calcutta: Two per- sons were injured when parts of a cellphone tower came off and fell on an adjacent house in Howrah’s Bally. Police began a probe after residents protested against the service provider.

Snatcher held

Calcutta: Sheikh Munna alias Kalua, a notorious snatcher, was arrested from a hideout in Paharpur on Saturday morning. An officer of the Garden Reach police station said Kalua was involved in seven snatching incidents in the past three months. Raids are on to nab two of his associates, Kalim and Raju.
