Look at ’em, too!

A-ha — Take on me: A romantic video that delightfully infused cartoon imagery with real-life back in the early 80s — absolutely brilliant and steps ahead. It’s shocking how this one does not feature on the Top 10 groundbreaking videos of all time.

Sinead ’Connor — Nothing compares to you: It’s hard to forget an intense, bald Sinead ’Connor creating magic with nothing but her emotions onscreen. This video just goes to show that you don’t have to get nude to be sexy. And that you don’t have to use sex to create one of the most watchable videos of all time.

Peter GabrielSledgehammer: Sledgehammer introduced special effects to music videos, and set the stage of many such videos to come — should have been there on top as well, this one.

Michael Jackson — Black or white: A highly enjoyable, epic video that also introduced face morphing for the first time. Jacko’s displacement from one set-up to the other was also spectacularly done. And, of course, McCaulay Kulkin who blows up the house and sends his dad to outer space with the twang of his guitar, with Slash’s intro playing in the background.

George Michael — Careless whisper: One of the greatest poignant love songs of all time. Michael was presumably straight at the time, and the video was simply done. The effect was long-lasting, without an iota of the sleaze that Michael was later associated with. You could watch this one endlessly.
