State boxing from tomorrow

The 53rd state senior men’s boxing championship is beginning from Friday at Alipore Body Guard Lines. The state junior and sub-junior meets for girls will also be held simultaneously from Friday to Monday. The Bengal Amateur Boxing Federation said on Wednesday that about 150 boxers, including 35 girls, are expected to take part. City police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee will inaugurate a boxing ring of international standards before the meet gets underway.

Subrata Cup

Eight zonal teams will vie for top honours in the city leg of the inter-school Subrata Cup starting on Friday. The champions will qualify for the finals to be held in New Delhi in September.

5-a-side meet

Transworld and TCS moved into Main Plate semis of the five-a-side Mercantile soccer meet at Calcutta Rangers Club on Wednesday.

RESULTS: Main Plate quarters — Transworld bt Wipro 4-1; TCS bt BDHC A 8-7 (1-1). Losers Plate quarters — Panchwati bt BDHC B 4-2; Cognizant bt Eveready 3-1.
