Jamshedpur, July 28: A visionary, an accomplished aviation pioneer and a rare patron of art and science, that sums up JRD Tata.
As the steel city gears up to pay a moving tribute to him on his 102nd birth anniversary tomorrow, steel major Tata Steel kicked off the proceedings today by organising an inter-school quiz competition.
Forty schools took part in a mega event held at the Michael John auditorium this morning.
Reduced to six teams after a gruelling written round, DBMS English School emerged winners followed by Sacred Heart Convent and Jamshedpur Public School.
?The final rounds, on audio visual, were developed strictly on the life of JRD, the most interesting round being based on excerpts taken from his interviews to various people. The students had to keenly follow the 20-second piece based on which they were asked questions,? said Ashish Kumar, quiz master for the show.
Meanwhile, among the elaborate plans drawn up to give the steel city an insight into JRD?s life, is a cross-country race for the Jamshedpur Old Girls? and Guys? Association (Jogga) affiliated Jusco schools and Prem Jyoti Prangan schools, at the JRD Tata Sports complex.
The day would proceed with a trip down his fascination for flying high through an aerobatics display in the hangar and various interesting films on air shows at the Sonari aerodrome early tomorrow morning.
An inter-bustee football tournament at the Gopal Maidan will follow.
With the launch of a special postal cover with a cancellation stamp issued on JRD, the day would be marked with a state-level drawing competition for special children.
