Rescue from well
Purulia: Days after six-year-old Prince was saved from a 60-ft pit in Kurukshetra, another rescue act was staged by fire brigade personnel in Purulia.
Gita Rani Dawn, a 50-year-old housewife, fell into a well on Tuesday morning while drawing water. Alerted by her cries, some people informed the fire brigade. She was pulled out with the help of a crane.

Calcutta: The cabinet has agreed to de-reserve 20 of the 27 posts of civil engineers in the Public Health Engineering department reserved for SC/ST and OBC candidates. Backward classes welfare minister Jogesh Burman said the posts have been lying vacant for two years and no one had responded to advertisements.

Calcutta: The Opposition Trinamul Congress staged a noisy walkout from the Assembly on Tuesday, protesting against the governments failure to check price rise and the assassination of democracy by Speaker Hasim Abdul Halim. They slammed the Speaker for reducing the time allotted to Trinamul MLAs for Wednesdays health budget.
Girl returns
Krishnagar: A 17-year-old girl from Kalyani in Nadia returned home on Monday, two years after she had gone missing. In the meantime, the girl had married a youth who rescued her from a brothel in Siliguri. She told her parents and neighbours how Goutam Saha, a local tea stall owner, had sold her to a tout for Rs 50,000. The neighbours beat up Goutam and handed him over to police.
