| Fatal heart attack on board plane A passenger died on board an Indian flight after suffering a severe cardiac arrest on Sunday afternoon. S.K. Udaypuria, a resident of Bhubaneswar, was travelling from Bangkok to Calcutta on his way home on flight IC 732. He suffered the cardiac arrest mid-air. The plane landed at Calcutta airport at 3.40 pm and he was immediately attended to by an Airports Authority of India doctor, who pronounced him dead. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Six held for dacoity plot Six persons were arrested at Dakshindari, in Lake Town, on Saturday night for allegedly assembling with the intention of looting a jewellery shop in the area. According to police, the cops patrolling the area became suspicious about the movement of the men and chased them. They were carrying four swords, a single-shot firearm and four rounds of cartridges. Assault arrest Two people were arrested on Sunday afternoon for allegedly assaulting an employee of a company on AJC Bose Road. Ramesh Bajoria, the employee, said in his complaint that he came to Calcutta from Mumbai to settle the dues of the other employees of the company, which has been closed for the past 10 years. 'I was in my office when two people ' the owner of the plot on which the company's factory is located and his son ' came in. They pinned me to the ground and beat me up,' Bajoria alleged. He lodged the complaint at Beniapukur police station. Gajendra Karnani, the owner of the plot, and his son Asish were later arrested. Rape charge A 30-year-old man was arrested in Thakurpukur on Sunday on the charges of raping a 21-year-old woman. The complaint was lodged by the victim. She told police that Kartik Shit, a distant relative, entered the room in which she was sleeping alone and raped her. Shit was arrested soon after in the house. The woman has been sent for medical examination.

Psychiatry meet The 19th annual state conference of Indian Psychiatric Society, West Bengal branch, was held at Advanced Neuro Psychiatric Institute, Joka, on Sunday. Kedar Ranjan Banerjee was re-elected secretary of the society and A.N. Chowdhury was elected the new president. Civic drive The Calcutta Municipal Corporation authorities have decided to conduct anti-mosquito drives in educational institutions in the civic area for a fee. Chief municipal health officer Deb Dwaipayan Chattopadhyay said the institutions will be able to afford the fee. Thumbs Up
