Jamshedpur, July 13: The Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB)?s two-day inspection of industrial units in the Adityapur industrial area ended without result today.
The board carried out the special drive against suspected power theft.
Today?s investigation was inconclusive.
A group of entrepreneurs under the banner of Adityapur Small Industries Association (ASIA) protested against the inspection to the deputy commissioner of the Seraikela-Kharsawan district when the team resumed its inspection in phase VI of the industrial area.
The entrepreneurs accused the JSEB team of harassing them and for causing a loss of revenue because of the time lost during the inspections.
The JSEB team, however, returned with armed police and an executive magistrate, determined to complete the inspection.
Unlike on Wednesday, the team also carried a letter on the inspection from the P.R. Ranjan, the board?s general manager-cum-chief engineer.
The team from JSEB stopped power supply to RK Forging during inspection despite protests from industrialists who found the drive ?insulting?.
But the inspection team were forced to stop work a little later as it started to rain, leading to an argument between RK Forging?s management and the inspection team.
The company?s management said it had suffered a loss of Rs 10 lakh because of the inspection.
P.K Singh, superintending engineer of JSEB?s energy accounting section, said the inspection would continue despite the protests as it was as special drive against suspected power theft.
RK Forging?s general manager, V.K. Gupta, said: ?There must be some rules of inspection, as such random drives leads to losses for us.?
Inder Agrawal, vice-president of ASIA told The Telegraph that while carrying out such inspections, JSEB authorities should assure the company concerned to compensate the loss if no theft is detected.
?We will not object to the JSEB drive provided that they make it sure that the loss incurred during inspection will be met by the power board,? said the ASIA vice-president said, adding that they would continue the protest.
It may be mentioned here that JSEB has launched the special drive following the detection of power theft in Nanak Steel Company at Adityapur industrial area last month.
The management of the Nanak Steel had used an electronic chip in the cable and a remote control for manipulating the meter.
JSEB is likely to conduct random checking in 28 industrial units under Adityapur industrial area. The first phase of the inspection started on Wednesday.
