I am a student of Calcutta University doing my BCom second year. I want to go to the UK for my MBA. I know that there are two types of programmes, one-year full-time and two-year part-time. Which will be better? Also, please suggest how to get the loans and scholarships to pursue such a course.

Kunal Banerjee

You can only pursue a full-time course in the UK. You will not get a visa for part-time study. There is not much financial aid for MBA students in the UK. Certain universities might give some students with good backgrounds a part tuition fee waiver. Some scholarship options are available for students with an excellent academic record. These include British Chevening Scholarship and Department for International Development Shared Scholarship Scheme, among others. You can contact the British Council for information on scholarships. Some banks in India, like the State Bank of India, have educational loan schemes that extend from schooling to research. The amount differs according to the course. But, these loans are subject to many terms and conditions.

I am a student of first year BTech civil engineering at the National Institute of Technology, Silchar. I want to know the job opportunities in India and abroad after completing a PhD in the US. Is work experience going to boost my career prospects before going for further studies after BTech?

A.Ghosh

You will have a lot of job opportunities once you complete your PhD in civil engineering. Civil engineers find employment in a variety of industries, government agencies and private consulting firms, with many opportunities for working internationally. All PhD programmes in civil engineering are highly individualised in the US and demand good academic records, good scores in qualifying examinations and approval of a dissertation. Work experience is not mandatory.

I am a Plus Two student with a physics-chemistry-mathematics combination. I wish to study aerospace engineering from a Russian university. Could you please name some of the best universities?

Sanjay

The Moscow Aviation Institute (State University of Aerospace Technologies) offers many programmes in aerospace engineering. The aircraft faculty of the Novosibirsk State Technical University also offers diplomas in five fields of aerospace engineering. The academic staff and scholars working at the faculty are known for the quality of their research work. Kazan State Technical University offers bachelors degrees in aircraft and rocket manufacturing as well as maintenance services of aircraft equipment.
