Munich: Togo were left rudderless on Saturday after their coach Otto Pfister quit overnight due to a World Cup pay dispute. “The current situation is that he has left and he has left the hotel,” team doctor Joachim Schubert said on Saturday.
Togo FA president Rock Gnassingbe confirmed in a short telephone interview on Saturday that Pfister had left ' “he has gone” ' but would give no further details.
A Fifa spokesman for Togo added: “Mr Otto Pfister had a meeting with FA president Rock Gnassingbe and left at around 0200 and said he was finished with the Togo team.”
Kodjovi Mawuena has taken over as coach of the team, a spokesman later said. “Mr Mawuena is the new coach and he has already conducted training with the team this morning,” Togo spokesman said on the telephone. (Reuters)
