Bhubaneswar, June 2: After a prolonged lull, Orissa?s All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) project has been put on the fast track.
The cabinet committee on economic affairs set the ball rolling once again for the Bhubaneswar AIIMS, besides five more such institutions, by making budgetary allocations under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.
Official sources said a sum of Rs 330 crore has been sanctioned for the Bhubaneswar AIIMS project, which can start in another two years.
The government has provided 100 acres at Sijua on the outskirts of the city for construction of the project free of premium. A boundary wall for the project has been erected by the Hospital Services Development Corporation, a central government undertaking, at Rs 2 crore.
A senior bureaucrat said the Union health ministry had asked the Orissa government on May 1 to undertake a pre-construction survey for the AIIMS project.
The study would include geo-technical, topographical and hydrological studies of the area. The Orissa Remote Sensing Agency could be entrusted with the job.
A high-level team headed by the Union health secretary is expected to visit the project site later this month.
