Rahman revisited

A.R. Rahman’s been sort of cut-off from India! Is it because he’s gone

What he looks for before saying ‘yes’ to any project? The theme has to be striking, it should be close to the strings of my heart and soul, and something that I feel will have a lot to give to my audiences. Above all, I like to give my best. Hence involvement in any projects has to come from within.

After Vande Mataram, Rahman hasn’t cut any album!

I am coming out with another record in June on the values of humanity titled, Pray For Me Brother. I have been working on this album for quite some time now. It’s a simple song, which is very unique in concept. Bharat Bala (the makers of the Aishwarya starrer, Taj Mahal, and of course Vande Mataram) will be directing the video for the same.

What is the idea behind Pray For Me Brother?

To spread the message of humanity. People will be requested to preserve the ideals of humanity through means of brotherhood.

Any Hindi film his fans can look forward to?

I have just finished Mani Ratnam’s Guru. Besides I have Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodha-Akbar and Rajkumar Santoshi’s London Dreams.

On being the most chased music director by the singers!

I really don’t know why. But, yes, I feel privileged and humbled.

How does he feel being regarded as a Sufi?

I feel elated. It’s a blessing from God. I also respect the thoughts of those who consider me a Sufi. As far as I am concerned, I only want to do a world of good to every human being through my music. I will feel satisfied if I can give them a few moments of joy and happiness.

Does he like the way Indian melody is changing its essence?

I think this change is for the better. There was a period when Indian melodies couldn’t find space in the mob of Western music, pop albums, etc. But now Indian melodies have made a comeback in a big way. And now songmakers are incorporating Indian music in their films.

What about his latest international musical, Lord Of The Rings?
