You were the first in alerting the public that corrupt officials and politicians can manipulate the electronic voting machines to fake the results (Hijacking of EVM, April 24). Services of technocrats of West Bengal government and semi-government enterprises were used in making adjustments in the computer chips. Therefore the possibility of manoevouring the votes to favour a particular party cannot be ruled out. Scanning of constituency-wise results strengthens such a belief. So the Election Commission should get the matter examined by experts to ensure that the sanctity of EVM is maintained.
A sense of trust
Electronic eye (May 15) depicted an excellent way for anxious parents to keep an eye on their childrenís activities with the aid of mobile phones. But canít its usage be reversed ' children utilising this method to keep a tab on their parents' But then whether parents keep track of their children or vice-versa, the bottom line is that we perhaps need to inculcate trust amongst ourselves. Then perhaps there would be no need of any gadgets to keep a tab on the activities of our loved ones.
Anurag Bibhor Prurandaha,
Astrology is an ancient practice, which is still very much practiced all over the world (Stars are just stars, May 15). The fact that it hasnít been done away with indicates its authenticity. In this world there are still many things that work beyond logic, and astrology in my belief is one such thing. If the moon, which is quite far from us, can cause tides then why canít the planets and stars have some influence on human beings. Itís true that astrology is still an unproved science (sic) but who knows perhaps one day we might be able to find the logic behind it all.
