30000 kg ganja seized
Bokajan
police seized 30,000 kg of Manipuri ganja from a West Bengal-bound
truck at Khotkhoti in Assam on Friday.
The ganja was loaded at Maruary patti in Dimapur. Two persons,
Ashim Biswas and Nepal Sekh, have been arrested in this connection.
Central funds
The Centre has earmarked a special allocation of Rs 102.3 crore for Border Area Development Programme in the Northeast for 2007. Arunachal Pradesh will get the lion?s share of Rs 32.98 crore, followed by Tripura with Rs 16.62 crore.
Malaria alert
A Rs 60-crore state-of-the-art flexible packaging plant, owned by the Dharmpal Satyapal group, will be installed at Bonda near Guwahati next month.
Liquor haul
Police seized 339 litres of illicit liquor worth more than Rs 80,000 during a raid on a house at Bawngkawn in Mizoram.
Water conclave
The Centre is discussing the North East Water Resources Authority project with Arunachal Pradesh. All the states of the Northeast, except Arunachal Pradesh, have agreed to the constitution of the North East Water Resources Authority.
Tourism meet
A two-day seminar on Cultural Tourism and Arts and Textiles of the Northeast, organised by the Indian National Trust for Arts and Cultural Heritage, ended in Kohima on Thursday. A draft declaration on an integrated Northeast tourism policy was adopted at the conclave.
