Ranchi, May 25: Governor-cum-chancellor Syed Sibtey Razi urged industrialists today to open more private educational institutions to produce skilled human resources.
The chancellor, who was addressing a gathering at Ranchi University?s senate hall, said this after felicitating the principals of St Xavier?s College, Nicholas Tete, and Jamshedpur Women?s College, Shukla Mohanty, for attaining the status of ?College with Potential for Excellence?.
?Previously, our kings used to work for the welfare of the people. Then, came the landlords, who opened schools and colleges to keep alive the names of their forefathers. Now the time has changed and I think, the industrialists should come forward to open more and more private educational institutions for skilled human resource,? he said.
Referring to vice-chancellor A.A. Khan?s welcome speech, in which he stressed the need to increase the percentage of youths in higher education, Razi said: ?Only six per cent of the youths, which is about 60 per cent in our country, goes in for higher studies. So an increase in the specialised institutions would surely help them.?
Razi then turned to the state government advising it to bend its norms in the wake of globalisation.
?For better human resources, we need to make changes in our policies, so that institutions of world repute can open their corridors here,? he said.
Congratulating the colleges for attaining the titles, Razi asked them to maintain the standard of education and infrastructure.
?The status that you have got is not for your whole life. If you compromise in quality, the status might be taken away. So it is important to retain and continue with the attained zenith,? he added.
Razi also stressed the need to upgrade laboratories and libraries as well as to strengthen vocational courses.
