Assam posted a 3-0 win over hosts Sikkim and Manipur in the sub-junior boys team event on the first day of the 2nd North Eastern sub-junior and Veterans Table Tennis Championship in Gangtok on Tuesday. The sub-junior girls and veteras also beat Sikkim 3-0. The team: (boys) Elsayeed Mustafa Hussain, Pranjit Baruah, Rahul Sarma and Nirman Baruah; (girls) Mahasweta Batsallya, Premee Bora, Dipika Gogoi, Priya Dutta and Poonam Saikia; (veterans) Abbasuddin Ahmed, Jayanta Saikia and Rubul Dutta.

Former champion of The Telegraph Schools Chess Northeast leg Kh Sanjoy clinched the 11th Y. Nilamani open chess meet organised by Singjamei Chess Club at Singjamei Girls HS School here recently. He tallied 8.5 points and was trailed by Th Gobin Luwang (7 pts) and Y. Dhanabir (6.5).

Altogether 10 football referees have qualified as Grade III referees in the examinations held last year by the Dhubri District Sports Association. Tuesday?s result named Utpal Karmakar, Ashok Gowala, Dulal Chandra Roy, Dilip Kumar Hazong, Fazlur Hoque, Dilawar Hussain, Pradeep Kumar Kar, Kapil Uddin Ahmed, Bhupendra Na-th Karmakar and Atul Chandra Roy as the qualified referees.
