Gold prices drop

Mumbai, May 20: Selling pressure today pulled down gold prices by Rs 330 to Rs 9,780 per 10 gram in Mumbai, amid reports of a steep fall in its prices in overseas markets. In Chennai, gold was down by Rs 355 at Rs 9,915, in Delhi by Rs 340 at Rs 9,910 and in Calcutta by Rs 300 at Rs 9,975 per 10 gram, respectively.

Godrej plan

Chennai, May 20: Godrej and Boyce plans to set up more manufacturing plants in the country and will invest Rs 15 crore to expand the Ambattur unit which makes home and furniture products. The company is also planning to open manufacturing plants in other south Indian states.

Tea fund

Guwahati, May 20: The Centre has undertaken a Rs 4,700-crore programme for replantation in older tea gardens using new methods to rejuvenate the country's tea industry, Jairam Ramesh, Union minister of state for commerce, said today. The fund will be utilised in the next 15 years for replantation in 1.7 lakh hectares, with Assam's share being 60 per cent.
