Devang Gandhi smashes unbeaten 170
Devang Gandhi at the Eden on Tuesday

Calcutta: Devang Gandhi, who flew from England to play the three-day A.N. Ghosh Trophy final against Kalighat, made his trip memorable by smashing a brilliant unbeaten 170 at the Eden on Tuesday.

Sporting lost their top five ? Arindam Das (0), Ajay Verma (0), Avishek Jhunjhunwala (4), Alokendu Lahiri (14) and Charanjit Singh (28) ? when the team total was 94. Devang was then joined by Avijit Ganguly.

Tottering at 94 for five, Sporting were hoping that Devang would do something to save the day and he did it so with perfection.

He added 198 runs for the sixth wicket along with Avijit, who contributed 66 and took the team total to 357.

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly had a physical conditioning session at the Eden after the match. He, however, did not go through any net session.
