SAT score success

Jamshedpur, May 5: Living up to its tradition, city students have once again managed to bag offers from prestigious universities abroad for studies at the graduate level.

Six students from Loyola High School will soon make their way to various universities in the United States, Spain and Germany after impressing the institutes with their strong portfolios and, of course, the brilliant scores notched up in the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT).

Among them, Ankur Verma and Rutwik Kharkar have bagged full scholarships.

While Ankur scored 2,210 out of 2,400 in SAT 1 and 2,370 out of 2,400 in SAT 2, Rutwik?s scores were 2,270 and 2,350.

Ankur has won an entry to Bates College, Lewiston, in Maine, and Rutwik is all set to try his luck in Haverford College in Philadelphia, both of which are ranked among the top 20 colleges in the world.

?I am happy that I have been able to grab a full scholarship. The best part about foreign universities is that they give you ample time in the first year to decide on your choice of subject for the majors, which begins from the second year. Though I have not made up my mind I am looking forward to explore all the subjects that interest me, starting from economics to physics to anthropology,? he adds with a delighted smile.

Rutwik, on the other hand, knows that he will pursue genetics. ?Currently I am waiting for a confirmation from Cornell University in New York, where I have been put on the waiting list,? he explains.

Another person hoping for more luck is Karan Bhardwaj who already has an offer from the University of Bremen, Germany, but wants to wait for the results of colleges like Trinity, Duke, Swathmore and Williams, all in the US.

While Sourav Kumar has been invited by St Lewis University, Spain, with a 33 per cent study scholarship and 15 per cent work study, which means he has been offered work on campus to supplement his education, his classmate Bibhash Das has made it to Lewis and Clark in the US. There is also Tarush Agarwal who has secured himself a seat at the Lafayette College.
