Ranchi, May 5: After launching a city bus service, Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has started the process for building shopping complexes in the state capital.
The civic body has invited expressions of interest from builders for developing a shopping complex at Madhukam-Khadgarha on Ratu Road. The complex will come up on a 7.7 acre-plot.
?The project has been initiated to boost revenue. We are trying to use vacant plots,? said an RMC official.
The civic body plans to develop the complex on a private-public-partnership model on a BLOT (build, lease, operate and transfer) basis.
The property, the official said, may be developed on a floor sharing basis (conversion). The developers have been asked to highlight the financial benefits in their proposals, while describing the project.
The RMC is enthused by record revenue generation during the past financial year. It earned Rs 8.92 crore in the last fiscal, which is the highest earning ever since it was set up in 1979.
Recently, the civic body had proposed to start 19-seater bus service on 10 select routes of the capital.
According to the proposal, initially 20 (two each on one route) buses will be introduced with the help of private partnership. The profit earned by the private agency will be shared by the RMC.
The civic body is also planning to collect toll from vehicles entering the city. This is a practice in many other cities and has proved to be a good revenue earner.
The official said a proposal to this effect would soon be sent to the urban development department.
RMC has already sent the proposal to amend the tax structure to the department.
