Hooch accused land in net

Berhampur, April 27: The father-son duo of Dharma and Rabindra Sahu, believed to be the main culprits behind the liquor tragedy in Golabandha village of Ganjam district, were arrested from a lodge in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh last night.

The Sahus, who claimed that they sold fried fish and boiled eggs apart from illicit liquor, were today paraded before the media by Berhampur superintendent of police Rajesh Kumar.

Though Kumar described the arrests as a major breakthrough, Dharma hinted that ?much bigger? players were involved in the liquor racket. ?The big fish are still out of the reach of police and excise officials,? he said.

A 12-hour bandh called by the district Congress committee to protest the hooch deaths affected normal life in Ganjam. Bandh supporters burnt tyres to prevent the movement of vehicles. Steel and mines minister Padmanabh Behera, who also holds the excise portfolio, postponed his Ganjam visit to tomorrow in view of the bandh.
