Jamshedpur, April 27: The Jharkhand contingent will be donning a spotless gear, save the bottle green blazers and the striped ties, during the opening ceremony of the National Games in Assam.
According to sources in the Jharkhand Olympic Association, the necessary spadework for selecting the costume for the state contingent during National Games 2006 in Assam has already been done.
While the apex sports body has decided to retain the bottle green blazers, the colour which many officials feel is the ?essence of Jharkhand?, the athletes and the officials will be putting on white shirts, trousers and shoes.
This is in contrast to earlier occasions where they would march out in an array of coloured T-shirts and greenish lowers. The contingent, for instance, had sported such a costume during the opening ceremony of the 2003 National Games in Andhra Pradesh, one of the officials informed.
M.K. Pathak, the treasurer of the state Olympic body, confirmed the move. ?Selecting the costume is our prerogative and we have already selected the nature and colour of the costume. But there might be some modifications depending on the grant that we receive from the government,? he said.
A logo of the mascot for 2007 National Games, to be held in Jharkhand, will be displayed on the blazer, Pathak added.
Pathak further said that JOA will send a team of officials to Assam for a hands-on feel of the organisation of the mega event. ?It is our turn to host the National Games in 2007. So this exposure will do us a world of good,? he said.
Sources in the JOA also informed that efforts are on to rope in a designer from New Delhi to work on the costume. ?Negotiations are on, but a final decision is yet to be taken,? the source said.
