Easy semis, eye on crown

Jamshedpur, April 27: Ajit Pandey and Sonu Gupta will clash in the junior boys? singles final of the 19th Jamshedpur Open badminton tournament being held at the Mohan Ahuja Stadium.

In the semi-final played this afternoon, Pandey made short work of Anupam Bhattacharya in straight sets 15-1, 15-1, while Gupta overcame Awdhesh Pandey 15-13, 15-3.

The last four matches in junior girls? singles saw defending champion P. Visnisha of Andhra Association English School drub Preety Kumari 11-0, 11-3, while Shristi Jain of Sacred Heart Convent defeated Shivani Sardar of Bharat Sevashram School with the same margin.

Both Visnisha and Shristi booked a place in the summit clash of the sub-junior girls? singles by posting semi-final wins against Sneha Kumari (11-0, 11-0) of Tata Steel Badminton Training Centre (TSBTC) and Debashruti Biswas (11-4, 7-11, 11-4) of DBMS, respectively.

Jairaj Sunny of TSBTC set up a title clash with team-mate Vishal Saurabh by putting it across Beldih Church?s Kumar Ankit 15-0, 15-4 in the sub-junior boys? semi-finals.

Vishal came better against Vishal Kumar Deo of Beldih Church 15-3, 15-1, in the other last four ties.

Sunny and Vishal Sourav latter assured themselves a place in the finals of the sub-junior boys? doubles by brushing aside the challenge of Surjeet Kundu and Gunjan Kumar 15-4, 15-0.
