Gender biased
Battling a social evil (April 10) bears the testimony of one of the most heinous social practices still prevalent in the rural areas. Its a matter of shame that the sex ratio is deteriorating day by day. Though NGOs are working hard to eradicate this social evil, I presume it would take ages to achieve their target, as India happens to be plagued with illiteracy. Conducting literacy campaign and making people understand the importance of a girl child could perhaps help in combating with ubiquitous custom of infanticide.

Techfile on demand
I am a regular reader of KnowHow. It is a good effort on your part to begin a new column related to computers, which aims in solving computer-related problems. No doubt, this column is good. You carry Kaleidoscope once a month, but we have lost our Techfile forever. Could you please carry it at least once a month?

Informative meet
Tracking the tsunami (March 27) was both informative and helpful as it enunciated certain solutions for combating tsunamis. I think that it was very thoughtful of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics to organise a five-day workshop on tsunami. I presume that the interaction between scientists is definitely going to benefit the people inhabiting the coastal areas. The workshops agenda can equip us better to face the aftermath of this tragedy.
