31 players for 5 seats

Siliguri, April 21: After the scrutiny of nomination papers today, 31 candidates remained in the fray for the five constituencies of Darjeeling district.

In order to ensure a free and fair election, the Election Commission has come up with a series of guidelines, including the deployment of para-military forces to be deployed by May 4. The polling stations in the district will be manned by CPMF, while the state police will take care of the rest.

The district election office has received 500 digital cameras to record the poll proceedings. Besides, 1,790 ballot papers for electronic voting machines, 18,000 postal ballots and 9,000 ballot papers for service voters have also arrived here.
