Nagaon, April 21: An inter-district yoga competition, organised by the Nagaon District Yoga Association, got under way here today. The competition ends on Sunday.

More than 200 participants from 18 districts are taking part in eight different categories.

Last edition?s Yoga Kumar Anurag Das of Nagaon and Yoga Kumari Darshana Kakoti of Kaliabor as well as Yoga Samragyee Rinku Konwar of Dhemaji and Yoga Samrat Dharma Jyoti Kalita of Nagaon will vie for top honours this time as well.

Hosts Nagaon have been the best team since 2000. ?We expect our participants to put up a good performance this year as well,? said Nagaon Yoga Association general secretary Dibya Jyoti Mahanta.

Beda Kanta Mahanta and Tarpana Khound of Lakhimpur presented a spectacular demonstration in the inaugural function of the competition.

The inter-district meet could not be organised last year as the proposed dates clashed with the nationals in Haryana.

Participants will have to demonstrate 10 asanas in each category. All the programmes, including Sunday?s prize distribution ceremony, will be held at the District Library.
