Guwahati, April 20: Giant
killer Swapnil Das Kashyap of Maharishi Vidya Mandir shared
the Pawn Group (under-11) lead with top seed Krishnashish
Gogoi of Srimanta Sankar Academy and third seed Bhaskar
Jyoti Neog of Axam Jatiya Vidyalaya in the ongoing P.C.
Borooah Children?s Chess Championship here today. Each of
them had three points.
Natasha Dutta of Disneyland School
and Ravi Kant Tiwari of Happy Montessory School trailed
close behind with 2.5 points each.
Krishnashish Gogoi survived a
major scare from Sudesna Sarma of Happy Montessory School
after he blundered away his knight on the 22nd move. However,
Sudesna returned the favour on the 35th move, allowing Krishnashish
to queen a pawn. Krishnashish won the game on the 49th move.
Bhaskar outsmarted Arpan Phukan
of Faculty School with white pieces on the second board.
Swapnil persisted with his giant-killing spree, accounting
for fifth seed Raktim Deka of Maharishi Vidya Mandir. Raktim
blundered away his queen against a bishop on the 14th move
and Swapnil took the advantage to checkmate his opponent
on the 32nd move. Natasha Dutta beat Adarsh Pratim Bordoloi
of Maria?s Public School while Ravi Kant Tiwari outsmarted
Param Shivam Kalita of Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti.
In the Bishop Group (under-15),
second seed Parikshit Upadhyaya of Maharishi Vidya Mandir
continued with his untrammelled run to share the lead with
third seed Kh. Jintu Singha of Dispur Government High School,
fourth seed Nilotpal Misra of Maria?s Public School and
Kushal Bagadia of Don Bosco School. They have three points
per head after the third round.
Parikshit beat Indraneel Talukdar
of Axam Jatiya Vidyalaya with black pieces, Jintu won against
Bedanta Choudhury of Maharishi Vidya Mandir and Nilotpal
tamed Uttaron Baruah of Maharishi Vidya Mandir. Kushal Bagadia
upset fifth seed Adrit Phukan, also of Maharishi Vidya Mandir.
