Chennai, April 15: With already a Rs 64-crore disproportionate assets case pending against Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa, the ADMK supremo appears to be taking no chances.
In her nomination papers filed today for the Andipatti Assembly seat in Theni district from where she is seeking re-election, Jayalalithaa disclosed her assets worth more than Rs 24 crore.
These assets include Jayalalithaas Poes Garden residence in Chennai worth Rs 5 crore, another premises near it worth Rs 95 lakh, 600 square feet property in Srinagar colony in Hyderabad worth Rs 1.41 crore and 15 acres of farm land in Jeedimetla village in Quthupullapur district of Andhra Pradesh worth about Rs 4 crore.
Going by her nomination papers, Jayalalithaa has deposits of Rs 2 crore in banks, financial institutions and non-banking financial companies, Rs 50,000 in investments in bonds, debentures and shares, besides shares of Rs 10 crore and Rs 1 crore in Shri Jaya Publications and Sasi Enterprises respectively.
Jayalalithaa owns five motor vehicles at present ? including an Ambassador, two Tata Safaris, one Siera and one Ford Ikon. Jayalalithaa has also disclosed that she had paid an income tax of over Rs 4.36 lakh in 2005-06 and a wealth tax of Rs 26,302 in 2004-05.
Jayalalithaa has also mentioned that after the disproportionate case was lodged, her jewellery had been seized by the police from her residence (during the previous DMK regime) whose value was undetermined.
