New Delhi: Sania Mirza gained two places to be 37th in the latest rankings despite making a first round exit at a Tier II WTA Tour event at Amelia Islands.
Mirza bowed out of the $600,000 championships following her 3-6, 4-6 loss to Lisa Raymond of the US at the hardcourt event. The 19-year-old, however, reached the finals with Liezel Huber of South Africa in the doubles event.
In the ATP and WTA rankings issued on Monday, Roger Federer and Amelie Mauresmo retain their No. 1spots.
Meanwhile in New York, Sania Mirza and Liezel Huber saw their golden streak come to an end as they faltered at the last hurdle at the $600,000 Bausch and Lomb Championships on the WTA Tour in Florida.
The unseeded Indo-South African pair went down 6-2, 6-4 to Shinobu Asagoe of Japan and Slovenias Katarina Srebotnik in the final at Amelia Island on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Russias Nadia Petrova captured her
second WTA event of the year after beating third seed Francesca
Schiavone of Italy 6-4, 6-4 in the final on Sunday.
