Jamshedpur, April 6: Ranchi University has set a deadline of three years to streamline vocational courses in the various constituent colleges under it.
Pro vice-chancellor of Ranchi University Salil Kumar Roy, who was in the city today, accepted the fact that the vocational courses under Ranchi University are not evoking a good response due to poor enrolment of students and lack of efficient teachers.
?We have set a three-year deadline during which new infrastructure, such as classrooms, laboratories and libraries would be created especially for the smooth conduct of the vocational subjects,? said Roy.
Presently, the university runs about 18 vocational courses on self-financing schemes. The courses are approved by the University Grants Commission.
Sources said the university has given the nod to several colleges for running the vocational courses without even properly assessing the infrastructure facilities.
University officials said some of the colleges like St Xavier?s (Ranchi), Doranda College and Jamshedpur Workers? College are contemplating to do away with vocational courses due to poor response from students.
Principal of Jamshedpur Workers? College S.S. Razi admitted that it is a burden for the college management to run the three-year office management and secretarial practise course due to poor enrolment of students.
?When the course was launched some three years ago about 25 students took the admission. But, this year, only nine students took admission,? he said.
