Jusco firm on rainwater harvest

Jamshedpur, April 4: Rainwater harvesting seems to be made mandatory in the city in tackling severe water crisis.

If plans by the Jamshedpur Utilities and services Company (Jusco) falls in place every commercial and residential building in the city would have a rainwater harvesting structure.

Sources at Jusco revealed that these plans would be implemented in phases. Apart from this, also in the pipeline are plans for providing safe drinking water facilities to all notified areas around the city.

The information was given during a seminar on rainwater harvesting at the Chambers Bhavan in Bistupur this evening. ?These projects are definitely in the pipeline and are most likely to be implemented within one or two years,? said a Jusco official.

Organised by the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industries, the event also saw Sanjeev Paul, managing director of Jusco, as the guest of honour.

Similar water harvesting structure would also come up in the two new schools managed by Jusco in the city.

In what was termed as a flagship event by the business association in dealing with water shortage in the city, a proposal was also placed to the Jamshedpur Builders? Association to have amenities for rainwater harvesting in every newly constructed highrise within the city.

?We also have plans to install the rainwater harvesting structure in every industrial unit as well,? said Suresh Sonthalia, vice-president of the business body.

The event, which was also attended by members of Rotary and Inner Wheel clubs, was principally organised to bring about an awareness on the necessity of rainwater harvesting in the city. Deputy development commissioner Manish Ranjan, who was the chief guest, also stressed on the need of conserving rainwater in the fields itself.
